The definition of dpi is: Dots per inch (DPI) is a measurement of how sensitive a mouse is. The higher a mouse's DPI, the farther the cursor on your screen will move when you move the mouse. A mouse with a higher DPI setting detects and reacts to smaller movements. A higher DPI isn't always better.
So basically there's a mouse sensitivity and ingame sensitivity for example, high sensitivity in game low dpi for the mouse, or high dpi and low sensitivity in game that's why you see 2 different styles like 1500-2500 or 6000-10000
for me i can't play with 10000 sensitivity because my dpi is high and it's so fast, and you can't have people recommend you sensitivity in game unless if they recommend you both dpi and sensitivity, @deadlykitten
